Training and Continuing Education Division – provides programs and services that create opportunities to develop a skilled and adaptable workforce that supports the Province’s social and economic goals.  Through partnerships, enables Manitobans to contribute to a dynamic province built on individual, workplace and community strengths.

  • Industry Workforce Development -- Works with industry associations to develop sectoral approaches to meeting human resource and training needs in strategic industry sectors. The branch assists with training coordination, course development/delivery, and may cost-share for some programs.   • Apprenticeship -- is responsible for the administration of The Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act and its associated regulations, and for apprenticeship programs for over 50 trades. The Branch coordinates the training and qualifications system that delivers accredited, structured, workplace-based skills and technical training to apprentices, leading to journeyperson certification. Employment Manitoba – delivers employment services to individual employers and through partnerships with community, industry and employer groups. Employment Manitoba co-ordinates, administers and assists in a range of activities that:

  • support the development of industry-specific training
  • help ensure the availability of a skilled workforce
  • assist workers who are about to lose their jobs
  • support the development of industry-wide strategic training plans
  • provide labour market information
  • help communities to address their specific skills shortages

Employment Manitoba offers wage subsidies to assist in the cost of on-the-job training for potential new employees. It must approve the wage subsidy before the new employee is hired. Subsidy levels may vary.

Hydro Northern Training Initiative – is a multi-year, multi-partner training and employment strategy to prepare northern Aboriginal Manitobans for employment and other opportunities related to hydro electric development in the North. Aboriginal-led in design, delivery and implementation of training, the initiative provides opportunities for assessment, upgrading, academic and technical training, and professional/management training for construction and other employment opportunities of Wuskwatim and Keeyask generating stations.
