Convergys Corporation selects Brandon, Manitoba for expansion.

Brandon, MB - Convergys Corporation, the global leader in integrated billing, employee care, and customer care services provided through outsourcing or licensing, is expanding its Manitoba operations into Brandon, pending City Council's approval of a lease agreement on January 8th, 2004.

Gloria Griffin, senior director of Site Planning and Development with Convergys Corp, Minister of Industry, Economic Development and Mines Scott Smith, Minister of Energy, Science and Technology, Tim Sale, MLA for Brandon East, Drew Caldwell, and Mayor Dave Burgess made the announcement today at the future site of the Convergys facility, 638 Princess Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba. The joint announcement reflects the collaborative effort put forth by Convergys, the City of Brandon, and the Province of Manitoba in bringing Convergys to Brandon. The partnership between the three parties will result in a positive economic impact for years to come.

In making the announcement, Convergys shared that it will be seeking to locate in a 37,000 square foot location in downtown Brandon. The company anticipates that the Brandon operation will employ 300 people by the end of year two. The operation will be officially opened in July 2004. "Convergys is dedicated to meeting the high standards of billing and customer relationship management services that our clients expect and deserve," said Gloria Griffin. "We look forward to working with the talented people of Brandon to build a successful business and a good relationship that allows us to give back to the community."

"Today's announcement is good news for people of Brandon and the Westman region," said Smith. "By choosing to establish their operations in Brandon, Convergys will spur job creation and economic spin-offs for the local community. The company's commitment to downtown will also help support efforts to revitalize the downtown area. We are pleased to join with the City of Brandon to welcome Convergys as a new member of the local business community."

"Our government is pleased to work with our partners to help realize this investment in Brandon," said Drew Caldwell, MLA for Brandon East on behalf of Diane McGifford, Minister of Advanced Education and Training. "The new training opportunities that will be created as a result of this investment will benefit the local workforce and help to meet the need for skilled labour by the local business community."

"We are very pleased to welcome Convergys to our growing city. The City of Brandon's investment in the municipally owned former library arts building speaks to the City's commitment to attracting new business to the city and supporting downtown revitalization," said Mayor Dave Burgess.

"Today's announcement will result in hundreds of jobs for Brandon and the downtown location will strengthen revitalization efforts currently underway in the area. In choosing Brandon, Convergys recognized our advanced communications technology, low cost of doing business and access to qualified and committed labour force," said Sandy Trudel, acting Economic Development Officer.
