Seasonal Flu

The seasonal influenza vaccine program is underway in Manitoba.  This year’s seasonal flu shot will be given first to Manitobans who are considered at greater risk from seasonal flu and would be expected to benefit the most:

  • Manitobans 65 and over
  • residents of personal care homes and other long term care facilities
  • children aged six to 23 months
  • individuals with chronic illness including heart or lung disease or weakened immune systems
  • pregnant women

Manitobans over the age of 65 should also get a pneumococcal shot at the same time as the seasonal flu shot. Most adults only need one pneumococcal shot in their lifetime.

If you have questions about whether you should get the seasonal flu vaccine, contact your health care provider or call Health Links – Info Santé at 788-8200 in Winnipeg or toll-free 1-888-315-9257. Click here for information on Flu in Manitoba, including H1N1 flu.
