Patient Safety Alerts

Manitoba Health reviews all critical incident reports and recommendations for trends and “lessons learned”. These trends and “lessons learned” are reported to the regional health authorities, provincial organizations and the public in the annual patient safety report as well as in quarterly summaries that will be launched in 2011.

Often, a critical incident will uncover an issue specific to the particular facility in which the critical incident occurred. Thus, the review will result in recommendations that lead to changes that are relevant to the operation of that specific facility. However, occasionally, a critical incident can also uncover broader issues that have the potential to result in harm to patients across the province.

In this case, Manitoba Health will issue a Patient Safety Alert to appropriate regional health authorities and provincial organizations that can help to ensure the safety of patients throughout the province.
