* The numbers listed reflect only those AEFI that have been reported to Manitoba Health, Healthy Living and Seniors. AEFI’s may include a range of reactions varying from mild (ex. reaction at the injection site, headache, etc.) to more severe reactions (ex. anaphylaxis). AEFI’s include events that occur following vaccination but may not be related to the vaccine.
** Three serious reactions that had previously been considered “under investigation” have been removed from the total number of serious cases. This reflects the current national definition of a serious AEFI.
*** Two of the hospitalizations have been confirmed as anaphylaxis
**** Anaphylaxis is an immediate allergic reaction to the vaccine, that may be life-threatening
***** Rare side effects of seasonal influenza vaccines have included Guillain-Barré syndrome, which is a form of paralysis that may be temporary or permanent
