Federal Political Structure -- Canada
Canada is a confederation of 10 provinces and 3 territories. The national capital is Ottawa, Ontario, with provincial/territorial capitals designated in each province/territory. The national legislature is a bicameral federal parliament, consisting of an appointed Senate (105 members) and elected House of Commons (307 members). Elections to the House of Commons are held every 5 years, with the last election having been held in January 2006. Canadian citizens aged 18 and older are eligible to vote.
