India – On the way to become a key market for organic products
India's agriculture is traditionally organic and many farmers have been growing organic for many generations. Starting in 2001 the Government has developed the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) proposes to provide an institutional mechanism for the implementation of National Standards for Organic Production. NPOP stands for a certification program and national standards. Furthermore it serves to encourage organic farming and organic processing throughout the country. The diversity of climate zones enables India to produce a great variety of agricultural products and cotton in certified quality.

"We were very glad to welcome 103 companies from 13 countries in Mumbai in 2010. With a huge variety of products from spices, fruits, vegetables, fabrics to natural personal care and organic textiles, 2,860 trade visitors were attracted to attend BioFach India together with India Organic. Of these exhibitors as well as visitors, a good number were also actively the delegates at the International Seminar that boosted knowledge, new learnings and exchange by sharing exclusive information from top organic players and experts. Seminars about how to reach the Indian costumers called attention to the national and international audience, but also topics like the "US Organic Market Update" and "The development of better practises of organic farming" were attracting the overall attention."
