Tree Planting Event on Canada Day: |
|
IntroductionManitoba Trade led this Canada Day project of students planting 1,000 trees, with a responsibility to look after them for the first year, with a grand prize of Rs. 100,000 (approx $2200.00 Cnd) for the healthiest tree by Canada Day 2012. Many trees get planted in India – often with great celebration and ceremony - but are often not looked after and die. This project is unique by emphasizing the care required to keep the trees healthy. One very special aspect of this project is that each tree will have a sensor to indicate its moisture levels, nutrient values, etc. and this information is relayed to the individual student’s mobile phone. The monitoring and analysis system has been donated to the project by Online Infocom of Ahmedabad, India. Online Infocom is working in partnership with Manitoba Trade on a number of agriculture technology projects in Manitoba, Canada, including a demonstration of crops monitoring and a special bee keeping project in July 2011.
