COLOMBIAColombia is Canada's third largest export market in Latin America. In 2006, Canada exported more than $135 million of agriculture and agri-food products to Colombia. Grains (wheat and barley) and pulses (lentils and peas) accounted for 80%. Trade between Colombia and Canada reached $1.15 billion and Canadian Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) totaled $453 million. In 2007, Canada exported more than $200 million of agri-food products to Colombia. In Colombia, Manitoba Trade will arrange one-on-one meetings, for participating companies, that will enable them to have direct contact with potential clients, distributors or partners in that South American market. BRAZILBrazil is considered one of the important new emerging economies of the world. Canada’s trade with Brazil approached $5 billion in 2007 representing 25% of Canada’s trade with Latin America (excluding Mexico). In 2007, Manitoba exported nearly $24 million to Brazil and imported close to $35 million. The State of Rio Grande do Sul is the fourth largest regional economy in Brazil and it borders the Mercosur countries of Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, which gives it a strategic location. Additionally, Manitoba Trade will also host a Manitoba pavilion at the Expointer Show, Porto Alegre, Brazil (official website of show). Participating companies will have the opportunity to exhibit at the provincial pavilion or to walk the show. In 2008, Expointer sees its 31st international edition, gathering the latest novelties of modern farming, agribusiness technology and livestock genetics. This show is also known as one of the largest events of this kind in the world, which indicates the agribusiness potential of Manitoba’s sister-state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. |
