Section 88.2 - Employment - Monitoring

Purpose

The purpose of employment monitoring is to provide short term support to the participant after employment has commenced.

Short-term monitoring may include direct assistance in the provision of consultative services to the employer with regard to any special needs of the participant or required job accommodations.

Process

Once the participant has obtained employment, the Vocational Counsellor is responsible for ensuring regular contact with both the participant and the employer to provide counselling support and encouragement to the participant and to act as a resource to the employer should a problem arise.

In situations where the participant is likely to require fairly intensive support in order to maintain their employment, Employment Supports – Goods and Services may be purchased from outside sources, typically Employment and Training Centres. Employment supports may be provided for up to 12 months and Services may be provided for up to 36 months after employment has commenced. Refer to Sections 133.5 and 177 for more details on Employment Supports - Goods and Services.

Employment supports provide time-limited supports and assistance to participants. The supports are primarily directed toward employment; however, assistance may also be provided to address or assist with non-employment related issues that impact upon the individual's ability to maintain employment.

Standards

The following standards apply to the process of employment monitoring.

  1. Active monitoring should occur for a minimum of 12 weeks after competitive employment has been obtained. In situations where Employment Supports - Goods and Services are required, the Vocational Counsellor may continue a monitoring role for up to 36 months after commencement of employment.
  2. In cases where the Vocational Counsellor continues their monitoring role, statistics should be maintained and include: type of employment, wage rates, and full-time or part-time status. These statistics are required to assist in completion of the Participant Closure Forms.
