The reception and awards presentation recognizes excellence in the use of archives and will take place in the Cross Common Room at St. John’s College, 92 Dysart Road on the University of Manitoba campus.

Online Campaigns and Exhibits
The Association of Manitoba Museums (AMM) is conducting a social media campaign to encourage Manitobans to celebrate Manitoba Day by visiting Manitoba museums. A Facebook page for Manitoba Day has been launched (Facebook.com/ManitobaDay) where Manitoba Day events will be promoted. From May 6 to 12, a Twitter campaign will raise awareness using the hashtags #MBDay2022 and #ManitobaDay. The association will re‑launch its popular ‘A Museum called Manitoba’ exhibit on May 12. Manitoba Day events and activities can also be found on their website and Facebook page.

Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada

On Monday, May 16, 2022, the Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada and Gray Academy of Jewish Education are co-hosting a virtual gathering to launch an online exhibit of drawings by Grade 4 students based on the Heritage Centre’s archival collection of the illustrious Winnipeg-based Green Blankstein and Russel architectural firm.

The Manitoba Archaeological Society will be offering family-friendly, archaeological-based education programs in the Prairies Gallery at The Manitoba Museum on May 14 and 15, 2022. Alternately, if you are interested in seeing how previous archaeological investigations have contributed to our understanding of sites in Manitoba, the Manitoba 150 tab on the MAS website provides excellent articles about the Delorme House, Lane’s Post, Lower Fort Garry, the Red River Settlement, Riel House, Manitoba Penitentiary and Asylum, Seven Oaks House, St. Andrew’s Rectory, Upper Fort Garry and York Factory.

The Annual Lieutenant Governor’s Awards for Historical Preservation and Promotion, presented in consultation with the Manitoba Historical Society honours Manitobans who have contributed to the preservation and promotion of Manitoba’s history, in a special ceremony at Government House, Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 5 p.m. The event is by invitation only.
A feature Manitoba Day Blog will also be released its social media to commemorate May 12th, showcasing some important Manitobans, historic sites, and choice pieces from Manitoba History.

Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum

In honour of Manitoba’s 152nd birthday, the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during WWII is hosting a free open house on Thursday, May 12, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Brandon Municipal Airport. Visitors will be invited to travel back to the 1940s while touring a WWII vintage hangar serving as a display area for aircraft, vehicles and hundreds of artifacts from that era. Manitoban members of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) who lost their lives during WWII are honoured on the museum’s RCAF WWII memorial wall.

The Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre

On May 12, 2022 the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre will provide free access to the centre, including the spectacular recently unveiled exhibit featuring a new member of the family at Mosasaur Hall: Dave, the filter-feeder shark. Dave is a near-complete, 12 foot long fossil shark skeleton, the only one in Canada and one of the biggest in the world. Free visits all day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Manitoba Act, which created the Province of Manitoba, was passed by the Parliament of Canada, and received Royal Assent on May 12, 1870. The act was proclaimed on July 15, 1870, when Manitoba joined Canadian Confederation as its fifth province. Celebration of Manitoba Day on May 12 has grown into an annual community event since Manitoba's centennial in 1970.
