Minister's Message

Minister Eric Robinson Welcome to the website of Manitoba Aboriginal and Northern Affairs.

As this website will show you, my department has three main areas of responsibility. These are the Aboriginal Affairs Secretariat, Local Government Development and Financial and Administrative Services. These three divisions work toward the common goal of improving the quality of life for Aboriginal and northern Manitobans. Some of our aims include:

  • higher graduation rates
  • increased employment
  • increased family incomes
  • safer and better quality housing
  • improved and proactive health services
  • increased opportunities for businesses to succeed
  • reductions in social problems and associated costs


We work to support relationships of mutual understanding and trust between Aboriginal Manitobans and the provincial government. We dedicate ourselves to meaningful and mutually profitable partnerships, respect for rights, fulfillment of obligations and proactive consultation. These are tools we use and rules we live by as we work to fully include Aboriginal people in a sustainable economy and a safe, healthy environment.
