Tracy Schmidt

Biography

Tracy Schmidt was elected as the MLA for Rossmere in October 2023. She is a lawyer with a background in labour and employment law.

She was sworn in as the Minister of Education and Early Childhood Learning in January of 2025, after previously serving as the Minister of Environment and Climate Change since October 2023. Schmidt has been appointed to multiple boards and committees including Treasury Board, the Healthy Child Committee of Cabinet, the Community Economic Development Committee, the Legislative Review Committee, the Poverty Reduction Committee of Cabinet, and the Public Sector Compensation Committee.

Prior to becoming an MLA, Schmidt worked as a labour relations officer for the Winnipeg Association of Public Services Officers. She also spent a decade working for Canada Post, where she was an active union member. Schmidt holds a bachelor's degree in sociology and criminal justice from the University of Winnipeg and a law degree from the University of Manitoba. She has held board positions with the Manitoba Association for Rights and Liberties and the Community Unemployed Help Centre.

Schmidt is a life-long resident of Fraser's Grove where she lives with her three children.
