Manitoba’s Requirements for Regulated Vehicles Markings
As of July 1, 2025, Manitoba requires that regulated vehicles that require a safety fitness certificate to legally operate in the province are marked with the National Safety Code (NSC) number of the registered owner. The requirement for regulated vehicles to be marked with the company logo and/or the company name remains.
Please note: Manitoba Motor Carrier Enforcement will enforce this requirement on out-of-province operators who travel on Manitoba’s roads and highways as of July 1, 2025.
The requirements for operator identification on regulated vehicles are specified in Part 3 of the Regulated Vehicles (Safety Fitness, Operator Identification and Records and Vehicle Exemptions) Regulation.
Manitoba’s regulated vehicle operator identification requirements are:
- A distinctive mark or graphic that readily identifies the registered operator placed in a conspicuous place on each lateral side of the vehicle
- The NSC number of the registered operator placed in a conspicuous place on each lateral side of the vehicle
- Each letter or figure must be a minimum of 5 cm tall and 5 cm wide and must contrast with the background it is placed on
- The regulated vehicle identification requirements apply to power units (i.e. trucks or truck tractors), not to semi-trailers
Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure also recommends the following:
- The registered operator’s identification markings is the most prominent of the regulated vehicle markings when more than one company’s name/logo is on a single vehicle
- The registered operator’s NSC number is clearly identified as the NSC number. This can be achieved by preceding the NSC number marking with one of the options noted below:
- NSC #: XXXXXXXXX
- NSC: XXXXXXXXX
- NSC No.: XXXXXXXXX
