Highway / Road Weights

Weights and Dimensions

Legal weights and dimensions for regulated vehicles are described in the Vehicle Weights and Dimensions on Classes of Highways (Manitoba Regulation 155/2018). Vehicles and the loads they carry, can result in extremes in weight and in any dimension.

Vehicles or vehicles and loads that are beyond the legally allowed width, length, height or weight must apply for and receive a permit to travel on Manitoba highways. These vehicles are monitored to ensure public safety and to protect the infrastructure on or near our roadways.

If you are over legal weight or dimension, you will need to apply for a permit.

The user-friendly Vehicle Weights and Dimensions Guide (PDF, 3.5 MB) outlines legal weights and dimensions on Manitoba roads. The guide breaks down the legal axle weights and gross vehicle weights based on the type of vehicle and the class of highway you may be traveling on. The guide also has other dimensional information such as wheelbase, inter axle spacing and effective rear overhang measurements.

For highway classification information, please use the Truck Weight Limit Map and Information Guide. Vehicles and any load they are carrying cannot weigh more than the maximum weight allowed on any highway on their route.

More information is available on vehicles that exceed normal weights or dimensions:
