Co-operative Education Program

Our co-op program helps you train for the future by combining classroom studies with real life experience. Help plan, design and construct Manitoba’s highways and public infrastructure – and get on the road to a rewarding career with MTI.

MTI partners with multiple universities and colleges hiring about 100 co-op students annually, throughout the province.

General Work Experience Plan for Students

Student Tracking Program

The MTI Training and Development team meet with the students 3 times per work term to see how the student is progressing and identify other areas of interest. These meetings occur at the beginning primarily to gather previous experience, set goals for current work term, and discuss future plans for school and permanent placement.

Another meeting occurs midway through the work term. This meeting is set up to add & document experience, get feedback from student & supervisor, and identify any areas that need to be addressed. The final meeting at the end of the work term is document all experiences from the term, get written feedback from student & supervisor, and discuss plans for next work term/employment.

Some of the benefits working with MTI as a summer student include:

  • paid overtime
  • accumulated vacation time paid out at the end of term

Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is committed to students continuing on. Students have the opportunity to transition out of the co-op program to full-time employment through competitive job advertisements which are based on performance and eligibility (contingent on graduation).
