Engagement and Relationship Development


The Engagement and Relationship Development program offers funding to eligible applicants to engage Indigenous community members at the start of project development and throughout the project design and delivery.

Funding supports actions and activities that:

  • Enhance partnerships and collaborative opportunities
  • Build relationships between sector participants, including industry, organizations, boards, watersheds, rural municipalities and other businesses
  • Build relationships between research originations, academia and communities to support the exploration of research projects or training initiatives
  • Increase community participation in early planning and development of food system projects.

Eligible Applicants

  • Researchers
  • Producer Organizations
  • Processor Organizations
  • Other Industry Organizations
  • Agri-business
  • Indigenous Government/Indigenous individuals, businesses, communities, and organizations, other Indigenous groups undertaking agricultural initiatives

NOTE: Applicants must demonstrate commitment and interest from Indigenous partner or indicate how the project will provide direct benefit to Indigenous partner.

Eligible Expenses

Cost associated with hosting community engagement events, including:

  • Consulting costs
  • Professional facilitation fees
  • Venue space
  • Activities and actions in respect of tradition and culture, may include:
    • Travel costs
    • Elder/knowledge keeper fees
    • Accommodations
    • Provision of meals

Project Timeline

12 months

Cost Share Funding

The cost share ratio is 75 government: 25 applicant; up to a maximum of $5,000 per project.
