Indigenous Food Systems and Agriculture
The Indigenous Food Systems and Agriculture program is designed to support community based food systems from planning through to development and implementation. Food systems include a broad range of activities that may include revitalization of traditional food systems, community gardens, local food sovereignty initiatives and agriculture.
Eligible Applicant Types
- Indigenous Government
- Indigenous Community
- Indigenous Group
- Indigenous individuals, businesses, communities, and organizations,
- other Indigneous groups undertaking agricultural initiatives
OR
- Producer organizations, processor organizations, other industry organizations, research bodies, or municipal government with demonstrated commitment and interest from Indigenous partner and direct benefit to Indigenous partner.
Eligible Expenses
Funding may support the following activities amongst others:
- Food system planning
- Training and skill development
- Revitalizing traditional food systems
- Technology and innovation adoption
- Scaling of existing operation, primary production and processing
- Enhancing community resilience to climate change
List of funding streams:

Supports activities to develop and implement community based food systems from planning through to development and implementation. Food systems planning includes a broad range of activities that may include revitalization of traditional food systems, expansion of existing food systems, agriculture, community gardens, local food sovereignty initiatives, adoption of technologies, and processing and perseveration.

Supports access to capital items required in implementing and/or scaling up food system/agriculture projects from production, processing to preservation or address identified barriers as identified in business and/or project plans. Funding may also support the adoption of new technologies and community owned infrastructure
