Pembina Valley Conservation District

Back to Conservation Districts

Pembina Valley Conservation District was established in 1989 and covers an area of 5,164 km². The CD includes the municipalities of Lorne, Thompson, Cartwright-Roblin, Louise, Stanley and Pembina.

Wind and water erosion, loss of fertile topsoil, and water shortages are key issues in the watershed. To assist in achieving its integrated watershed management plan objectives for the Pembina River Watershed, the CD provides technical and financial assistance to local landowners participating in soil and water conservation programming. The CD programs include:  water retention and small dams , grassed waterways, abandoned well sealing, water testing, forage and salinity seed, gully and streambank stabilization, tree planting, public education and wildlife habitat preservation.
