West Souris River Conservation District

Back to Conservation Districts

West Souris River Conservation District (WSRCD) was formed in 1995 and includes an area of 4,208 km². The district is located in southwestern Manitoba and includes the municipalities of Grassland, Pipestone, Sifton, Two Borders and Wallace-Woodworth. The WSRCD board envisions a landscape where the land, water and related natural resources exist in a healthy, sustainable state and are capable of supporting a healthy and economically viable community over the long term. To achieve these goals, the conservation district has developed and delivered resource management programs for residents in order to address local issues related to water quality and quantity, soil protection and improvement, wildlife habitat enhancement, environmental education, and protection and preservation of threatened habitats. The conservation district plants shelterbelts annually, partners with conservation agencies on habitat enhancement projects, and places a strong focus on environmental and youth education. The WSRCD has developed an integrated watershed management plan for the West Souris River Watershed.
