‘Out the Door in 24’ / OTD24: Optimizing the speed of referrals and requisitions. When cancer is suspected in a patient you are seeing in your office, do your referrals and requisitions get sent/faxed Out the Door in 24 hours? Office process delays can be a major barrier to the timely booking of a diagnostic test or a consultation with a specialist. Access these tools to assess your office’s performance and make improvements to your office’s practices:
- Out the Door in 24 overview
- Referrals Quiz – do your referrals need a check-up? Take this quick quiz to find out.
- Measurement Sheet - for measuring your clinic’s referral rate
- Office Practice Support from Process Improvement Experts (Lean Kaizen) through the CancerQuestion Helpline – fill out the online form and someone will contact you with information and to discuss visiting your clinic.
- LEAN on cME sessions combine a Cancer Diagnosis small group module (CME accredited) with an overview of In Sixty System enhancements and a session on review requisitions and referrals in your clinic.

Manitoba Breast Imaging Locations and Services using the new form and direct referral process:
Cancer Navigation Service (link for contact numbers, regional referral forms and additional information). Primary Care Providers can refer directly to Cancer Patient Navigation services for their patients, for any or all of the following reasons:
- Nurse Navigators link to patients by phone to provide information, education or additional support services, including psychosocial oncology services, during this time of high anxiety and uncertainty.
- Navigators can inform the ordering FP/NP when tests, referrals or results are delayed compared to the recommended timelines in the In Sixty pathways for breast, colorectal and lung cancers. (www.cancercare.mb.ca/diagnosis)
- They DO NOT order tests or make referrals as they do not take over patient care. However, they can help provide guidance on the recommended next steps in diagnosing a patient and information to include in the referral package to CancerCare Manitoba.
WHAT’S NEW IN MY EMR?
WRHA Central Intake for Endoscopy: Central intake is based on a single-entry model which offers one point of equitable access into the health care system. Access is first determined by the appropriateness of the patient for the service and medical urgency, and secondly based on request date. The single entry services allows the region to understand the demands for scoping services ensuring that patients have access to timely services. In order to achieve this service, we have developed in conjunction with ColonCheck Manitoba, a standardized referral form which will be required to access this service.
