Opportunities for Economic Growth Action Plan

Overview

The Opportunities for Economic Growth Action Plan is a comprehensive set of tangible, focused and strategic actions that the Manitoba government will advance in partnership with stakeholders and the private sector to create a stronger economic future for Manitobans.

Through this coordinated and collaborative approach, we will capitalize on our province’s competitive advantages to meet our shared vision for Manitoba’s future economy: sustained growth, increased trade and investment, a robust, skilled and inclusive workforce, and continued progress towards economic reconciliation.

To create this action plan, we started with a data-informed examination of private sector performance, emerging growth areas and future workforce needs that provided new insights and clarity about current challenges and future opportunities. Read about our key findings by visiting the Research section of this website.

Next, to ensure we had an industry-informed vision for the future of our economy, we engaged our economic development partners and stakeholders whose advice, experiences and insights shaped this plan. Visit the What We Heard section of this website to explore the feedback we received from stakeholders.

Through these engagements, we heard that government action alone is not the solution and that stakeholders see government as a convenor, bringing partners, private sector and government together to work towards shared strategies and priorities.

Taking Action to Advance Economic Reconciliation

As the largest growing population in Manitoba, the unique talents, contributions and perspectives of Indigenous Peoples are essential to realizing the full potential of our economic opportunities for growth, and our future success must result in shared prosperity for all Manitobans.

Manitoba is committed to continued dialogue about meaningful economic reconciliation. It is important that the actions contained in this document – and our broader economic activities – are informed by the voices, perspectives and interests of Indigenous Peoples.

Above all, stakeholders were clear that Manitoba needs to continue to take action to create the conditions for economic prosperity. We need to continue to use data to inform our priorities, while ensuring we keep a keen eye on emerging trends and opportunities. Our focused and coordinated approach will allow Manitoba to be proactive, nimble and competitive with jurisdictions around the globe.

The launch of this action plan is part of ongoing dialogue.  Manitobans can visit this webpage to monitor our progress and new actions will be added to ensure our plan remains responsive, timely and comprehensive.
