Water Management Engineering and Construction
Mandate
The Water Management Engineering and Construction Branch is primarily responsible for managing and delivering Manitoba Infrastructure's water related infrastructure preservation and capital programs.
The infrastructure assets that fall within these programs include the following:
- 90 dams
- 19 community flood protection ring dikes
- 425 km of linear river diking
- 8 diversions including the Red River Floodway and the Portage Diversion
- 4,750 km of Provincial waterways
- 41 pumping stations
- 61 water reservoirs
- 3,350 crossings over drains
- 13,000 thru-dike culverts
- 345 other water control structures
Branch activities related to the management of these assets include:
- Development of water infrastructure design standards
- Engineering design, tendering, and construction management for water infrastructure projects
- Managing and directing engineering service provider contracts
- Administering Manitoba's dam safety program
- Inspecting provincial water control infrastructure
- Performing water-related environmental investigations and ensuring regulatory compliance of construction projects
Water Management Engineering and Construction also provides operational and technical support for provincial flood response efforts when required.
