Description:

Abstract:
Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of southern Manitoba Elevation data derived from over 5000 2 metre Digital Ortho Images (DOI) were gridded using Vertical Mapper (2.5 within MapInfo 5.5) to generate a DEM of southern Manitoba. The original DEM data, as well as the DOI files can be obtained from Linnet - The Land System Company (www.linnet.ca).

Purpose:
To provide a high resolution elevation data set for southern Manitoba. This data will provide surface topography for 3D mapping.

Logical Consistency Report: Software parameters remained consistent throughout the creation of the DEM.

Completeness Report:

Once the original data were gridded it became evident that there were both missing data tiles and erroneous data that appeared as pits and spikes on the grid file. Missing data tiles were patched using data derived from 50 000 NTS contour lines. Pits and spikes (generally several anomalous data points) were manually corrected by maintaining surface trends in the surrounding area.

This version of the DEM covers a much larger area of southern Manitoba, although at a lower resolution where contours were integrated (Available as DEMSM Version 2.0). The final coverage of Manitoba was achieved by combining version 2.0 of the southern Manitoba DEM with the pre-existing GLOBE coverage (a 1 km cell size).
