Appendix I - Other Employment Programs

Day Services

This section provides a brief description of some other employment-focused programs and services for people with disabilities.

 

The Department of Families offers Day Services as part of its Community Living disABILITY Services program. Funding is provided to not-for-profit organizations that provide a range of Day Services for persons with an intellectual disability, including follow-up services, services with a vocational focus, and personal development services. These services are designed to support eligible participants in the acquisition of new skills, maintenance of existing skills and enhancement of opportunities for vocational and community participation including, but not restricted to, self-care, work, social and leisure skills.

 

Day Services are not part of Employability Assistance for People with Disabilities.

 

A Day Services program participant may be referred to Employability Assistance for People with Disabilities for vocational training, education or employment if and when appropriate.

Manitoba Mental Health and Community Wellness

Manitoba Mental Health and Community Wellness supports a wide range of employment-focused services to assist adults experiencing mental illness in preparing for, attaining and retaining employment. Services funded directly through Manitoba Mental Health and Community Wellness include: Selkirk Mental Health Centre, Eden Mental Health Centre and Community Mental Health programs delivered by the Regional Health Authorities (Proctor Program, Program for Assertive Community Treatment, Ventures and Selkirk & Interlake Mental Health Support Centre). Two external programs that provide employability services are delivered by Employment Dimensions and Self Starting Creative Opportunities for People In Employment. In addition, Manitoba Mental Health and Community Wellness supports two external addictions agencies that provide employment focused rehabilitation services to individuals with addictions (Addictions Foundation of Manitoba and The Behavioural Health Foundation).
