Stop Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Week

The second week in March is Manitoba’s annual Stop Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Week. The province of Manitoba joined the province of British Columbia in declaring this an official week, thereby making the awareness week one step closer to being recognized at a national level. Manitoba recognizes this issue will require ongoing awareness and a continued commitment.

By proclaiming the Stop Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Week, Manitobans can work together to address the problem. Plans are being developed to have awareness initiatives taking place not only in the city of Winnipeg, but throughout various regions of the Province.

Stop Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Forum – March 14 and 15, 2019 - Open to the Public

The Tracia’s Trust, Thompson Regional Team located in Northern Manitoba will host the 2019 Stop Child Exploitation Annual Awareness Forum.

This Forum is an opportunity to build awareness and provide important networking/education opportunities to our communities and stakeholders about sexual exploitation as it concerns our children and youth. It also provides an opportunity to share information about initiatives relative to this regional area, as well, highlight important resources such as the Hope North, Mobile Crisis Unit.

Thompson is an ideal location for the 2019 event as the Sexual Exploitation Unit in the Child and Family Services Division is currently working with Manitoba Hydro (Keeyask Dam) and surrounding communities near Thompson to bring greater attention to the issues of sexual exploitation. The StreetReach program has also recently received additional financial supports from the Department of Justice to work collaboratively with the RCMP in addressing missing youth in the Thompson area.
