Renewing a safety fitness certificate in Manitoba

Manitoba requires safety fitness certificate holders to renew their certificate each year. A valid safety fitness certificate is required to register commercial vehicles in Manitoba.

Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure sends renewal applications to carriers approximately 6 weeks prior to their safety fitness certificate expiring. To renew a safety fitness certificate in Manitoba, carriers are required to complete and update the information on the renewal application, including:

  • Annual vehicle kilometres travelled for their fleet (new as of December 1, 2022)
  • Proof of adequate insurance. The minimum insurance requirements are $1 million for commercial operations that operate for compensation and/or operate outside of Manitoba, $2 million for regulated passenger vehicles operating for compensation and for the transportation of dangerous goods.
  • Proof that all regulated vehicles registered to the carrier has a current periodic mandatory vehicle inspection certificate (new as of December 1, 2022)
  • Sign-off for consultants or insurance brokers to act on the carrier’s behalf (new as of December 1, 2022).
