Mission
The Environmental Health Risk Assessment
Team provides
leadership to identify, assess and address important and emerging
environmental health issues to reduce the threat of environmental public
health risks and protect the health of Manitobans.
Activities
- Identify known existing environmental health threats.
- Assess emerging threats and longer term potential threats.
- Advise on surveillance and monitoring requirements in cooperation
with Manitoba
Conservation.
- Formulate effective intervention or prevention strategies to control
environmental health threats.
- Examine existing legislation to ensure the Act and Regulations are
effective in the area of environmental health standards and
enforcement.
- Provide environmental health risk advice to other Departments prior
to the issuance of certificates of approval for new industries or
infrastructure change proposals.
- Develop and promote strategies to ensure continued safe drinking
water and clean air for all Manitobans
- Participate in Federal/Provincial/Territorial committees to
represent Manitoba on air, water and general environmental health
issues.
- Provide consultation to the Chief Medical Officer of Health and the
Regional Medical Officers of Health as well as other government
departments and committees on a broad range of environmental health
issues.
