Wages

Employers are required to pay regulated minimum wage rates to apprentices in each trade. The minimum wage rates for apprentices are specific to each trade and level within the trade. Apprentices start their apprenticeship program with a minimum wage rate that is above the provincial minimum wage (level one minimum wage rate). Wages are raised when apprentices complete the requirements for each level (including the technical training, required hours and calendar time for the level) and progress to the next level of training in their trade.
It is important to note that the regulated wage rates for apprentices are the minimum amounts that apprentices can be paid by their employer. Higher wages can be negotiated between the apprentice and the employer.
