About Apprenticeship Manitoba

Apprenticeship Manitoba is responsible for the administration of the apprenticeship program and certification for the designated trades in Manitoba, which lead to the development of skilled workers to help meet the needs of Manitoba industries.

The apprenticeship program is industry driven; Apprenticeship Manitoba works in partnership with the Apprenticeship and Certification Board. The board provides strategic advice to the minister on the delivery of apprenticeship initiatives and programs.

Together, the board and Apprenticeship Manitoba fulfill the requirements set out in The Apprenticeship and Certification Act.

Apprenticeship Manitoba is responsible for the training and certification of Manitoba journeypersons; for administering provincial and Red Seal certification exams; and for issuing provincial and Red Seal Certificate of Qualifications for over 50 designated trades in Manitoba.

Apprenticeship Manitoba is a branch of the Manitoba government, within the Department of Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation, and is responsible for the administration of:

Apprenticeship Manitoba works in partnership with the Apprenticeship and Certification Board (board), to help the board achieve the goals that it has outlined in its five-year Strategic Plan. Apprenticeship Manitoba supports clients to manage their individual programs and apprentices and trades qualifiers to achieve certification, co-ordinates information and planning for the designation of new trades; develops training curricula in co-operation with Manitoba industry and other provincial/territorial apprenticeship systems; processes requests for the accreditation of training programs; provides counsel on trades careers and certification matters; and performs other essential support services to facilitate apprenticeship training and certification.

Apprenticeship Manitoba and the Apprenticeship and Certification Board have separate roles in Manitoba, but each reports to the minister.

The executive director of Apprenticeship Manitoba is the secretary to the board and is the main contact for interprovincial and pan-Canadian apprenticeship initiatives. The executive director is responsible for consulting with industry and represents Manitoba on the Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship (CCDA).
