Electrologists perform pre-epilation (pre-hair removal) treatments, electrolysis using galvanic and/or short-wave currents, and post-epilation (post-hair removal) treatments to remove unwanted hair for clients. Electrologists consult with clients to determine the treatment needed and to outline any risks. They also sterilize equipment and keep their work areas clean and sanitary, sometimes performing reception and management duties.

When registering as an apprentice, enrolment in or completion of technical training is required.

In addition to a provincial certification-theory examination, a practical examination is required for this trade.

Provincial Occupational Analysis

The two-year Authorization to Practise renewal process is no longer required for the trade. Apprenticeship Manitoba is no longer issuing Authorizations to Practise to those who are working in the trade, but will continue to recognize Authorizations to Practise that have been issued prior to December 18, 2020.

Your Authorization to Practise will continue to be recognized as your permit to work in the trade. Going forward, a Certificate of Qualification in the trade or a temporary permit will continue to be issued to individuals who have met the minimum requirements to work in the trade. These documents will serve as the proof of eligibility that is required to work in the trade.

Apprenticeship Manitoba is currently conducting a review of the trade of Electrologist. A moratorium on new apprenticeship applications and registrations in the trade of Electrologist is now in place (effective January 8, 2019) until the review is complete.
