Hairstylist


Hairstylists use a range of specialty equipment and products to cut, style, colour and chemically treat hair. Duties also include treating the hair, scalp and related skin conditions. Classroom instruction includes developing a working knowledge of workplace health and safety, as well as personal and public hygiene. Hairstylists enjoy working with, and meeting people. They need to be able to stand for long periods of time, maintain a well-groomed and professional appearance, and keep up-to-date with styles, supplies and technologies.
Employers include salons, hair replacement clinics, studios and retail product sales companies.
When registering as an apprentice, enrolment in or completion of technical training is required. In addition to a Red Seal endorsed certification-theory examination, a practical examination is required for this trade.

Apprenticeship Manitoba is no longer issuing Authorizations to Practise to those who are working in the trade, but will continue to recognize Authorizations to Practise that have been issued prior to December 18, 2020.
Your Authorization to Practise will continue to be recognized as your permit to work in the trade. Going forward, a Certificate of Qualification in the trade or a temporary permit will continue to be issued to individuals who have met the minimum requirements to work in the trade. These documents will serve as the proof of eligibility that is required to work in the trade.
