Hiking

Thousands of kilometres of trails crisscross Manitoba. These are only a few of the choices available in more than a dozen of Manitoba's major provincial parks.

Whiteshell

In the Whiteshell you can hike the 60-km Mantario Trail in roughly four days or make a day hike from the southern trailhead off PR 312 to Marion Lake, 15 km in.

The 16-km Hunt Lake Trail around the east side of West Hawk Lake offers some of the most challenging hiking and striking scenery in Manitoba. For more big lake views, head for the short (less than two km) Ancient Mountains Trail on PR 314 in Nopiming Provincial Park.

Spruce Woods

At Spruce Woods Provincial Park, hikers can tailor their own walk to come up with a four- to 40-km trip along the Epinette Creek Hiking Trail System. Campsites with firepits, tables, water, and primitive toilets are situated an average of every five kilometres along the 40-km Newfoundland Trail.

Paint Lake/Pisew Falls

At Paint Lake/Pisew Falls Provincial Park, hiking enthusiasts can overnight on the far side of a suspension bridge along a round-trip 20-km trail to Kwasitchewan Falls, the highest waterfall in Manitoba.

Besides long hiking trails suitable for overnighting, many of provincial parks have short 1-7 km self-guiding trails for day hikes. Check with park offices for specific access information and to learn about multi-use trails in each of the provincial parks.
