Esthetician

The Esthetician trade is comprised of two sub-trades: nail technician and skin care technicians. Nail Technicians perform manicures and pedicures and apply artificial nail products. Skin care technicians perform body treatments, facial treatments, make-up applications, depilatory hair removal, and lash and brow tint services. Estheticians have completed and performed services in both sub-trades.
Estheticians work in beauty shops, esthetics salons and spas.
When registering as an apprentice, enrolment in or completion of technical training is required.
In addition to a provincial certification-theory examination, a practical examination is required for this trade.
Trade Regulation
The two-year Authorization to Practise renewal process is no longer required for the trade. Apprenticeship Manitoba is no longer issuing Authorizations to Practise to those who are working in the trade, but will continue to recognize Authorizations to Practise that have been issued prior to December 18, 2020.
Your Authorization to Practise will continue to be recognized as your permit to work in the trade. Going forward, a Certificate of Qualification in the trade or a temporary permit will continue to be issued to individuals who have met the minimum requirements to work in the trade. These documents will serve as the proof of eligibility that is required to work in the trade.
