Manitoba is experiencing extreme wildfire activity. Several provincial parks are closed, and fire bans and travel restrictions are in place. Manitoba Parks is working closely with the Manitoba Wildfire Service, the Conservation Officer Service and other partners continuously evaluating the situation. Check this webpage regularly for updates on park closures and restriction information.

PARKS CLOSED DUE TO WILDFIRE: Bakers Narrows, Manigotagan River, South Atikaki, Wallace Lake. Partial closures in Whiteshell and Nopiming.


Fire Bans and Backcountry Travel Restrictions

As of Thursday, June 19 at 8:00 a.m., Burn Areas 1-5 and 8-22 are at Level 2, which includes many provincial parks across Manitoba.

This includes provincial parks such as the Whiteshell, Grand Beach, Hecla/Grindstone, Duck Mountain, Clearwater Lake and Paint Lake. For the complete list click here

This means:

  • Camping is restricted to developed campgrounds.
  • Campfires are permitted only between the hours of 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
  • The use of charcoal briquettes is permitted only between the hours of 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. only. 
  • Gas appliances are permitted any time (such as propane barbeques, fire bowls, stoves).
  • Hiking trails are open.
  • However, closures remain in place on some trails, including the Mantario Trail in Whiteshell Provincial Park and the Kwasitchewan Trail at Pisew Falls Provincial Park.
  • Closures remain in place for the backcountry Grass River Canoe Route in Grass River Provincial Park.
  • The Caddy Lake Tunnel from Caddy Lake to South Cross is now open.  The second Caddy Lake Tunnel beyond South Cross is closed and the Caddy Lake water route is closed to backcountry travel in Whiteshell Provincial Park.
  • Motorized backcountry travel, including ATVs and other off-road vehicles, is prohibited unless under the authority of a travel permit.

  • All watercraft (canoes, kayaks, boats) are restricted to developed front-country lakes only (road accessible) and landing and launching is restricted to developed shorelines only. No travel or portaging to backcountry lakes permitted.  Shore lunches are prohibited.

As of Thursday, June 19 at 8 a.m., travel and fire restrictions are lifted at the following provincial parks:

Asessippi, Beaudry, Birds Hill, Camp Morton, Duff Roblin, Grand Valley, Hnausa Beach, Hyland, Lockport, Lundar Beach, Manipogo, Margaret Bruce, Memorial, Netley Creek, Norris Lake, Oak Lake, Pembina Valley, Portage Spillway, Rainbow Beach, River Road, Rivers, Seton, Spruce Woods, St. Ambroise Beach, St. Malo, St. Norbert, Stephenfield, Trappist Monastery, Turtle Mountain, Upper Fort Garry, Watchorn, William Lake, Winnipeg Beach, Yellow Quill.

Wildfire Updates

Restrictions and closures are put in place for everyone’s safety and allow fire crews and emergency responders space to do their work. Manitoba Parks asks for everyone’s patience and co-operation as this situation continues to unfold.

Whiteshell Provincial Park: Closure Area Updated June 10, 2025

All campgrounds, cottage subdivisions, businesses/commercial operators and developed areas in Whiteshell Provincial Park have reopened.  Services may be limited in Whiteshell campgrounds as park staff continue to support fire response efforts.

The Mantario Wilderness Zone is closed due to an active wildfire in the area.

The Caddy Lake Tunnel from Caddy Lake to South Cross is now open, however, the second Caddy Lake Tunnel beyond South Cross is closed. The Caddy Lake water route is closed to backcountry travel.

Nopiming, Manigotagan River, South Atikaki, and Wallace Lake Provincial Parks: Closure Area June 18, 2025.

Fire EA61 continues to burn out-of-control and has burned through most of Nopiming Provincial Park.

The south part of Nopiming reopened June 18 for permanent residents, cottagers and commercial operators. This includes Provincial Road (PR) 315, Bird Lake, Booster Lake, Flanders Lake and Davidson Lake.

A closure and mandatory evacuation order continues for the rest of Nopiming Provincial Park and the entire areas of Wallace Lake, South Atikaki and Manigotagan River provincial parks. These parks remain closed to park users including permanent residents, cottagers, commercial operators, seasonal and nightly campers, backcountry users and day visitors.

Reservations for Bird Lake and Tulabi Falls campgrounds have been cancelled up to and including June 26.

Campgrounds at Black Lake and Beresford Lake will remain closed for the remainder of the season, along with Shoe Lake and all water routes in the park. Manitobans who were planning backcountry trips in Nopiming this summer should make alternate plans.

Grass River Provincial Park: reopened for all park users Monday, June 16 including Iskwasum Landing, Gyles and Reed Lake campgrounds. Grass River Canoe route remains closed.

Wekusko Falls Provincial Park: reopened for seasonal campers and day visitors Tuesday, June 17. Nightly camping will reopen Friday, June 20.

Bakers Narrows Provincial Park: Closure Area May 30, 2025 Park is closed to all park users including permanent residents, cottagers, seasonal and nightly campers, and day visitors. Campsite reservations have been cancelled until July 3. 

Closures of provincial parks may be extended, depending on how the situation evolves. The Parks Reservation Service will be contacting affected campers by email.
