Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why is AgriMaps being replaced?
AgriMaps, originally launched in 2016, is running on technology that is now outdated. To ensure the system is supported and facilitate easier updates and maintenance, the application is being moved to a new platform.
Q. Can I still access the old AgriMaps after the new one is live?
Yes, for a brief transition period. The old application is expected to be available until it is retired on March 31, 2025.
Q. Will bookmarks or saved links to the old AgriMaps still work?
Bookmarks and saved links to the old AgriMaps will continue to open the old application until it is officially retired March 31st 2025. After it is retired, the website address of the old AgriMaps will be redirected to the new one. The website landing page of the old AgriMaps will also be redirected to the new one.
Q. Is there a tutorial or guide on how to use the new AgriMaps?
Yes, a comprehensive guide can be accessed from the Information tool located in the top right corner of AgriMaps. To watch a tutorial on AgriMaps, click here.
Q. Will all the data from the old AgriMaps be available in the new one?
Almost all of the data from the old AgriMaps will be available in the new version. The new AgriMaps focuses on using public and authoritative geospatial datasets, ensuring greater traceability and accountability of the included data. As a result, some layers have been updated, replaced, or removed. While some familiar layers may no longer be available, the new application includes reliable and current information.
Q. Why is some of the soil survey data displayed slightly differently than in the old AgriMaps?
There are some slight variations on the display of soil survey data in this new version of AgriMaps. The new version of AgriMaps has only one group of data that contains both detailed and reconnaissance information. To help distinguish between the two scales of info, the detailed soil data has green labels and outlines, while the reconnaissance has orange labels and outlines. In addition, some of the labels have a slightly different format due to some limitations in programming. For more details, click here.
Q. Are there any features from the old AgriMaps that have been excluded in the new one?
The ability to switch basemaps has been removed as the new application has been designed for optimal viewing with the World Imagery and associated basemap. The swipe tool has also been removed due to the superior functionality of transparencies for individual layers.
Q. Is the new AgriMaps mobile-friendly?
While the new AgriMaps has been optimized for the mobile devices using responsive design principles, there is a known issue that can cause AgriMaps to randomly refresh on an iPhone or an iPad. This is beyond the control of Manitoba Agriculture, but the bug is expected to be fixed sometime in 2025. To improve performance in the meantime, smaller mobile devices show some of the soil information within a text popup as opposed to the stylized polygon layer. In addition, the elevation profile and measurement tools are not displayed, but measurements can still be made within the draw tool. If issues are encountered, please upgrade to the latest iOS (version 18 or higher), close other apps, and close other browser tabs while using AgriMaps on an iPhone or iPad.
Note: There is only one AgriMaps application. AgriMaps will automatically detect the user's screen size and will display the relevant tools and data accordingly.
Q. How can I report bugs or issues with the new AgriMaps?
The underlying mapping technology will receive automatic updates from the software provider every few months. While these updates include bug fixes and enhancements, they can occasionally introduce new issues. If you encounter any bugs or issues with the application, or for any other enquiries, please email agriculture@gov.mb.ca.
